Thinking of starting a business on YouTube, right? Considering that 300 hours of videos are uploaded to the platform every minute, this is a wise move, but it doesn’t seem to be as easy as learning how to build a website. Relax-we will detail the basics for you to get your YouTube business channel up and running.
BELOW ARE THE STEPS
1. Start with the basics
The first thing you’ll need to do is actually create your business channel, and YouTube makes it incredibly easy to do. With just a couple of clicks, you’ll be ready to dive into setting up your new channel.
Sign in to YouTube and click on the user icon at the top right of the screen
Click on the gear icon to get to your account’s YouTube Settings
Click on Create a new channel
Then choose “Use a business or other name”
Add your Brand name and click create. Otherwise, you can craft a new one with a YouTube name generator.
2. Set up your business channel’s name
Once you’ve created your Google account, make your way over to YouTube’s homepage. To begin customizing your channel, click on the avatar icon on the top right corner of the screen. Click on “My channel” from the drop-down options.
You’ll then be prompted by the following screen which asks for your first and last name. Notice that YouTube also gives you the option of using a business or product name for your channel as noted earlier.
3. Fill out the details of your YouTube business account
There are many moving pieces to any given YouTube channel, but the following information will represent some must-dos for brands.
Click on the “Customize Channel” link. You’ll be presented with the following screen which clues you on what your channel needs to appear more complete.
4. Add Basic Info to your channel for discoverability.
Start by clicking “Basic info.
Here’s where you’ll enter some basic information about your channel, like the language your videos are in, as well as a description that helps people discover your channel when they enter search terms that describe what videos they’re looking for. These keywords can include what your channel is about, the problems it helps solve, the people and products featured, your industry, and more.
5 Upload your first videos
Now that your channel is ready, you need to focus on the content. Do you already have videos available for your channel? Click the Create button at the top right of your screen to upload your first video. Once a file has been uploaded, you need to provide descriptive information for the video.
Pay close attention to this part of the process, as these elements will determine its attractiveness, and also how it appears in video searches. The interface also allows you to edit YouTube videos once they are uploaded.
6. Create a channel trailer
When users arrive on your channel, they will see a featured video. You can decide which video, or channel trailer, should appear. It’s a good idea to create a new video specifically for this purpose.
Create one which welcomes users to the channel and explain what they will find here. You can select a different video for returning visitors who have now been introduced to the channel and may respond better to different content.
7. Shout about your new channel
Some social media management tools allow you to manage your YouTube activity alongside your other social networks. This means you can integrate video posts into your wider content calendar.
Social media tools are also great for planning communications across other channels to announce your new YouTube channel.
If you plan to use your YouTube channel as a primary social network, you should promote it in your other social networks to build your community of subscribers.
8. Ask viewers to subscribe
When someone subscribes to your channel (and hits that bell button), they get an alert when you put a new video out into the world — so growing your subscriber base is the best way to boost your organic reach.
There’s a reason why “Don’t forget to subscribe” is the sign-off of choice for YouTubers big and small.
Of course, growing your subscriber count is easier said than done. For that reason, we have a full guide on how to get more YouTube subscribers.
Once you hit 1,000 subscribers and 4,000 watch hours within the year, you’ll be able to register as a YouTube partner and monetize your channel.
We have always emphasized the importance of having a good website for your company because it can act as your best tool for marketing and sales. A poorly designed website can repulse people from your business and can cause you to lose customers before you even have them.
