Successful & Best Female Entrepreneurs.
Over the last 40 years, ambition and success have become loaded terms, especially for women. Today women can do it all, however, does that mean they should? It depends on who, and when you ask. Today, the business industry is flooding with powerful, professional leaders. What happens when these leaders are women leading in male- dominated industries? 73% of women in their 20s ranked their career as “very important”, but that eager majority falls to 61% for women in their 30s, 50% for women in their 40s and 50s until it drops down to 37% for women in their 60s.
It is easily visible that women are outnumbering men at universities and increasingly taking on household breadwinning roles. Why, then, one would wonder, this ambition drop-off occurs? Is it inter-office gender discrimination? Or is it that not all working women even want to “lean in” close enough to reach CEO-status? Here I am going to present an unbiased, in-depth discussion on winning skills no matter the position, job, position, industry or gender domination.
To begin with, we acknowledge that yesteryear’s ‘bad women’ are actually the successful ladies of today; not only for their career accolades, but also their grace, strength and bad girl spirit. This is one of those conversations you simply have to look around you to understand and agree with. The spirit of success pulsating as women climb higher and higher up the ladder. I have, at different times, spoken to some successful female entrepreneurs and they disclosed a little of how they’ve done what they’ve had to do in order to become who they are.
Today, I am going to share a few golden nuggets of those conversations with you.
Thriving as an executive in a male-dominated industry
When asked how a successful female CEO manages working at an executive level in the male-dominated industry, she told me “you have to be yourself and you have to reach out to get to know people as people.”
Reaching out emotionally to invite people to walk in and share with you what they feel, so the gender bias that we have almost been raised with, fades away, when people (especially the opposite gender) talk to you and realise that you mean no harm.
Dealing with crisis in a high-profile position
Take off the mask. Tell the truth and nothing but the truth, and let the chips fall where they fall. Challenges are great for learning and personal growth, though if you’re trying to create in the moment and you haven’t had time to process what you’re going through, it gets difficult. At times, it’s just too damn heavy to deal with creatively, true. But remember, it does not have anything to do with male and female. It got more to do with Corporate America. That’s how the industry works. What you see is what you get. Authenticity makes you happy where you work, makes you more effective, and makes for better teams. Few quick tips:
- Before you can set yourself on the path of being successful, set your goals;
- Tangibly establish what your aims are in the short, mid, and long term, to remind yourself of what you’re working towards.
- Write your goals on paper, so the visual cue reminds you of and reinforces your goals;
- Update your goals as you meet them. Once or twice a year, re-evaluate your goals to make sure they’re still realistic and attainable.
Setting unrealistic goals will not only cause you unnecessary anxiety, but can also hamper your success and the ability to meet other goals. Consider booking a free one-hour consultation session with our experts at HyperEffects to help you understand basics of anxiety-free marketing and setting up business, strategizing your goals and letting an advertising company save you the anxiety of making a website, running promotions and maintaining media and publication for your company.
More importantly, know your list of things to do and goals will never be finished and that it’s ok. As you attain your goals and cross items off your to-do list, you’ll also be adding new items.
We salute all of you for having the courage to go beyond the norms!
