Salespeople are constantly looking to create presentations that are compelling enough to motivate the other person to make a buying decision, or convince the audience to buy or perform the suggested action. The quality of your sales presentation will often determine whether a prospect buys from you or one of your competitors. However, most presentations lack pizzazz. These tips will help you create a sales presentation that will motivate buyers.
Be Creative – Create Presentations
Instead of saying “We can help you make more money”, you might want to say “If I could show you how that thing could make you some money, would you be interested?”. Consider creative approaches and the impact of those approaches compared to the typical approach that you might have been trained on. The world is a sucker for creativity. Use this to your advantage.
If you are not excited about your product, you would not be able to motivate the customer enough to buy it. When you discuss solutions, does your voice display excitement? Do you become more animated and energetic? Does your body language exhibit your enthusiasm? If not, you need to change your approach.
Keep it Short
Being able to get your point across in a reasonable period of time is more effective than speaking for more than an hour. Long presentations are never fun. Typically a prospect will allow you a certain amount of time. However, if it is open-ended, try to keep between 30 – 45 minutes and save room for more questions at the end. This further proves you’re efficient and effective in your communication. The more questions you let them ask, the more chance you have of convincing them to buy your service or product. Be Informed
The more information you have, the better equipped you’ll be to deliver an effective sales presentation that speaks to their challenges. Another reason for this is your competitors may be asking many other questions of the prospect if you are competing against other providers. Before a sales presentation, it is best to ask as many appropriate questions as possible. Here is a list of sample questions to ask:
- What are the major expectations you have for any new company you hire?
- What is your budget and what were you spending with your previous prover?
- Who are the main people who be involved in this decision?
- What challenges did previous provider not solve for you?
- What are some of the biggest challenges you’ve been facing in your market?
- Who else are you considering for this project?
Identify Challenges
A salesperson must never lose sight of the fact that there is a challenge or problem someone or something is having. This is the crux of your business. Large or small, there is a relative level of importance associated with it. The moment sales professionals lose sight of this and only speak to their capabilities is when they lose more sales presentations. We are not looking to be the saviour, but instead having the main problem at the forefront helps outline all the ways my product or services can solve whatever challenge you are facing.
Get to the Point
Know what your key points are and learn how to make them quickly. Today’s business people are far too busy to listen to long-winded discussions. A sales person who rambles at great length about his product stands a risk of losing the buyer’s interest and eventually losing the sale. After viewing the product and learning how much it would, see if the buyer is prepared to move ahead with the purchase. If you do not utilise your better judgement at the point and continue to talk, you might just talk the customer out of the sale. Make sure you know what key points you want to discuss and practice verbalizing them before you meet with your prospect.
Believe
Lastly and most importantly, believe in your product/service. Without a doubt, this is the most critical component of any presentation.
